Description
Many seniors are lonely and at risk of being isolated, which can negatively impact their health and well-being. People who feel isolated have higher rates of depression, higher instances of chronic illness, and shorter life spans.

Senior Companions, all of whom qualify as low-income, receive stipends and travel reimbursement to visit home-bound seniors for 15+ hours a week. They provide needed socialization and non-medical assistance so clients can remain independent in their homes. The program helps both groups stay connected and retain their independence.

Program Requirements

- Be aged 55 or older
- Be able to volunteer a minimum of 15 hours per week
- Have reliable transportation to visit clients
- Pass a background check

During the 3-Day Fall Orientation, accepted Senior Companions will receive training on:

- Program Overview (Federal and Local)
- The Role of the Senior Companion
- Strategies for Working with Older Adults
- Policies and Procedures
- Elder Advocacy

After orientation, participants will shadow a current Senior Companion before serving!

To be considered for the Senior Companion Program, you must submit an application, participate in a brief interview, and have a cleared background check!
